Canadian Super visa extended for 5 more years per entry. IRCC has announced that as of July 4, 2022, the length of stay for Super Visa holders will be expanded to 5 years per entrance into Canada. The changes are so foreign caregivers can extend their stay in Canada when they need to return home for personal reasons.
There will also be changes to the Super Visa program, such as the right for existing Super Visa holders to extend their stay in Canada by up to two more years while they are here. In addition, IRCC is moving toward introducing more flexibility when it comes to Super Visa insurance requirements in order to increase access to coverage among visa applicants.
The proposal for the Super Visa is a five-year temporary resident permit that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to visit friends and family in Canada at any time, with no limits on the visits allowed.
The visa would also allow parents and grandparents to stay more than six months instead of the current maximum of one year. A Super Visa would cost $1,000 for an initial application, $850 for each subsequent renewal and $150 for an extension. For reference, the Parent, and Grandparent Program currently costs sponsor families $400 per person ($4,000 for a family) plus accompanying fees.
As a result, in recent years, IRCC has temporarily opened expressions of interest for the PGP, followed by lotteries extending invitations to apply for permanent residency under the PGP. In an email to CIC News late last week, IRCC stated that it does not yet have an update on its intentions for the PGP in 2022.
As a result, the Super Visa is only eligible for people who pass a medical examination and submit proof of private health insurance from an approved insurance provider.
The Super Visa is a temporary, multiple-entry visa valid for 10 years which allows parents and grandparents to visit their families in Canada without the need to renew their status every 2 or 5 years.
Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can apply for this visa if they are able to meet IRCC’s minimum income requirements. In addition, super visa holders will be able to get emergency health care in Canada. If a parent or grandparent does not meet these requirements, they must apply for a TRP before entering Canada.
